Repellent chemicals are easily identified by termites and avoided. So they provide good protection for treated locations. If not all locations can be treated, or the treated locations become disrupted, termites can recognise the gaps and gain access via them.

The commonly used repellent is Bifenthrin, which features a residual life of up to 5 years following application.

Non Repelling Chemicals

These chemicals are not detected by termites, and therefore the termites do not avoid exposure to the chemical. Once exposed, the termites will soon die, and may also transfer the chemical on to fellow colony members, thus resulting in a compounding effect.

Because the termites can’t identify these non repellent chemicals, they cannot tell treated from untreated locations, and are much less likely to gain ingress through gaps.

The often used non-repellent chemical is Fipronil, which has a residual life of as much as 8 years.

Baiting Systems For Termites
